Using Essential Oils and Aromatherapy to
Encourage Engagement and Success in any Learning Environment

schoolMaasai

Aromatherapy can enhance any environment!

This information is critical to the development of a healthy coping skills response.

As an onoing lesson in sustainable living, students find great security in learning how to address their own educational needs. Maintaining focus is a huge hurdle to overcome. Not, however, when essential oils are used! I used essential oils with Grant and Tyler to help with focus issues as very little children. They both have exceedingly high energy and often suffered with the family insomnia curse. To battle these issues and encourage a good night's rest, I would burn lavender essential oil in a warmer in their rooms to promote a restful sleep.

It had a similar profound impact in the classroom!

A colleague once walked into my classroom several minutes after lunch hour and found every student silently working, focused on the lesson for the day. She was quite impressed with my ability to keep more than 20 young adult male students engaged with their work.

How does one get 25 young male students to focus after a lunch that consists of fast food and Mountain Dew? Essential Oils! I used essential oils in the classroom to UNDO all of the effects of outside distractions. The olfactory sense cannot be ignored and the powerful properties of essential oils work as a silent partner in the classroom! An electric warmer gently diffuses essential oils into the air, allowing their properties to work silently in the background. Coupled with a Lion King soundtrack, this created an atmosphere that colleagues often envied. It only takes a FEW DROPS of essential oil on a pad so a .5 oz bottle should last a few weeks, depending on your rate of use.

PAY IT FORWARD: Encourage your students to use this model in their own personal space at home to help promote much needed rest in order to meet any educational challenge headon!

These are very small steps you can take to not only keep your classroom managed but to teach students how to motivate and encourage themselves to seek success. I STRONGLY encourage adults teach teenagers how to receive a full night's sleep, now that educators have seen the need for adjusting school schedules to accomodate these needs. This not only promotes learning success for overall good health!

NOTE: USE ONLY ELECTRIC WARMERS IN THE CLASSROOM. Burners that require an open flame SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN A LEARNING SETTING.

REMEMBER: ALWAYS RESEARCH OIL PROPERTIES AND PROPER USES
